Michael Joseph Jackson (29/08/1958 – 25/06/2009) was an American singer, song writer, and dancer. Dubbed the ‘King of Pop’, he was one of the most popular entertainers in the world, and was the best-selling music artist during the year of his death.

He was the most awarded artist of all times with 26 AMAs, 13 grammies, 5 Billboard Music Awards, 6 Brit Awards, 18 MTV VMA Awards, 12 Soul Train Awards, 16 world Music Awards, 2 Danish Awards and 1 MOBO Award. He also holds 39 Guiness world Records, one of which is for the top selling album of all times Thriller, which has sold over 100 million albums so far and the world record for winning more grammies in one night, 8 in total. Also, he was awarded by The President of the USA Reagan in 1984 for his humanitarian efforts and by President George Bush as the artist of the decade. Another world record he holds is for the celebrity that supported the most charities, 39 in total.

Behind the Beatles and Elvis Priesley he is the top selling artist of all times with estimated sales over 300 million albums.

He is the first black artist whose video Billy Jean aired on MTV.

He started singing at the age of 6 when he joined his brothers’ band the Jackson 5. He became the lead singer replacing his brother Jermaine.

He had 8 siblings and they lived in a 2 bedroom house in Gary, Indiana. His father Joseph worked as a crane operator for US steel and his mother Catherine worked part time at a department store called Sears. He and his siblings called their father, who was also their manager, by his first name instead of dad. He became one of the richest artists of all times. In 1988 he bought his ranch for 17.5 millions which he named Neverland, after the homeland of his favorite hero Peter Pan. He spent twice as much for the private zoo and amuzement theme park.
