Researchers say air pollution has a harmful impact on our environment that can harm all of us and this changes our perception which comes to commit crimes or cheat. Even a study proves that air pollution increases the chances of people cheating or committing crimes.
Cities with high levels of crime were shown to have high levels of pollution.Their investigation found “particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ground-level ozone and lead,” were some of the major pollutants the report stated.
The Daily Mail reported, Exposure to such air triggers unethical behavior makes us more anxious, the Daily Mail reported.
This research reveals that air pollution may have potential ethical costs that go beyond its well-known toll on health and the environment, study author Dr Jackson Lu told the Daily Mail reported.
Delhi NCR as well as other major metropolitan cities has been criticized world over for the increasing amounts of pollutants they have been releasing into the atmosphere in the form of particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide.
Exposure to air pollution, even imaginative, may lead to unethical behavior such as crime and cheating, according to a study conducted on adults in India and the US.
The findings published in the journal Psychological Science suggest that this association may be due, at least in part to increased anxiety.
“This research reveals that air pollution may have potential ethical costs that go beyond its well-known toll on health and the environment,” said Jackson G Lu, behavioral scientist at Columbia Business School in the US.
“Our findings suggest that air pollution not only corrupts people’s health, but also can contaminate their morality,” said Lu.
